Another shot at Karmic Koala on my MSI Wind

The 2 major bugs on Karmic affecting MSI Wind has been fixed Ubuntu has detailed a workaround on the 2 major bugs on Karmic affecting MSI Wind on the release notes. I can finally upgrade my netbook to the latest version. This is a nice christmas gift from the Ubuntu team.

Bug #415023 brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100
fix released on Oct. 29, 2009 (not yet thoroughly fixed, Jan 10, 2010 – boot up ok, but starts to flicker after an hour or so when gnome power mangement starts to dim the brightness)

Bug #435352 regression: uvcvideo module makes “cannot reset port” error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails
fix released on Nov. 14, 2009 (confirmed fixed Jan 10, 2010)

  1. I’m using kubuntu 9.10 with kde 4.3.4 but there are still the brightness. i upgraded to KDE 4.4 beta 1 and the brightness bus is gone. :-D

  2. there’s a workaround on the release notes http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/910 on how to disable KMS. It requires you to edit Grub’s menu.lst. But it worked for me.
