Y!M Viruses

I just logged in to my Yahoo mail account and was not surprised when I saw a couple of Y!M messages. Most are caused by viruses. I implore everyone to please use an alternative messenger such as Pidgin if you insist on keeping your IM account. You have officially become a nuisance to your buddies!

I already noticed this on Y!M. This really sucks. So if I use Pidgin (which I prefer anyway) this messages will go away, or will this just make my account safe?

Yes, No, No and Yes…
Yes, spam messages would go away if you use a plugin that’ll automatically drop non-Buddies messages.
No, It won’t work if an infected Buddy sends you a spam message.
No, your account still isn’t safe, you are afterall, still using Yahoo that utilizes unencrypted protocol. Any data transmitted through Yahoo! is visible in the network – which includes your password.
Yes, as far as I know, there’s no known virus/malware/trojan designed to attack Pidgin. I only suggested Pidgin so you won’t unintentionally spam your Buddies.
