Thunderbird 3.1 and Lightning on a 64-bit Linux
Filed under: Software
I’ve used Mozilla Thunderbird for so long I don’t think I can switch to other clients. For me, Thunderbird is the only fixed point in space and time. So when Mozilla released v3.1, I didn’t even miss Lightning (a calendar extension). I figured I can tolerate Google Calendar’s interface. But then, school’s catching up and I really need to manage my time. That need forced me to search for an alternative, or die trying to install Lightning.
A quick look at the Lightning site showed me the three latest reviews, two of them about not being able to install the said extension on a 64-bit Linux platform.
Google search led me to the community-led wiki with instructions on where to download the extension for 64-bit systems.

So here I am showing off my beloved Thunderbird with Lightning installed

Why not just use the PPA?
