Goodbye Flock
Now that the countdown to Flock Browsers’ demise has started, I can’t help but feel sad for its loyal users. What a waste really. They have the right idea, but too few developers that kept on playing catch-up with Firefox, its extensions, Facebook and Twitter. Maybe it’s because of its license – it’s not a true open source project. I myself never did find out where I can download the source code. I never really tried, but most projects I know of has a prominent download source code here link or instruction on the developer page.
Heck! I even managed to persuade a couple of my friends to use Flock – and they love it!
There are two features I’ll miss most. The blogging application and the media bar. The blogging application is so simple my kids could use it. It’s really literally that simple and I use it all the time on and off work. I even considered uninstalling ScribeFire from Firefox since I rarely use it. The media bar allows me to view recently uploaded pictures of my Facebook friends and Flickr contacts and I love its ability to drag a picture/thumbnail from the media bar to the blogging application. No URL to copy-paste.
I’ll miss Flock Browser, despite its inherent flaws and sluggish behavior. But for now, it’s time to move on (or back) to Firefox.
