Ubuntu-PH Updates
I’ve recently taken over the duties and responsibilities of a LoCo Contact for the Philippine Team having succeeded Zak Elep for the said role. He’s been quite busy for the past few months now and our team desperately needs to get back in the loop.
The first thing I’ve decided to do is to resurrect our LoCo Website and establish an online presence. This will also facilitate collaboration between members of the community.
While awaiting for the response from Canonical (via RT) to reinstate our Website (which was sent months ago), we’ve dabbled on external hosting. While I’ve recommended 110mb to the community, Loell prefers Google App Engine.
I agree that GAE has some fine points, but they can only support Python at the moment. So I tried Googling for “Python CMS” and, disappointingly, found a few hits. On the bright side, I don’t need to worry about mod-python especially since I plan on taking advantage of the Launchpad API and automate a few tasks from our Website (like translations). The problem is, we’ll have to make do without Drupal and PlanetPlanet.
The next on my ToDo list is collecting documented activities of the Philippine Team for the last few years. So while awaiting for our WebSite, I’ve been hunting down Blog and FaceBook posts.
The third on my list is brainstorming on how we can get more members from the community to work on the Tagalog Translations on Launchpad. Tagalog was almost dropped from Debian last year due to decreased activity, and no one wants that to happen.
The fourth item is another brainstorming session for our Roadmap. But it’s mostly trying to remember those projects (in Pending status) we wrote down on our wiki. We intend on reviving them too.
The fifth item’s mostly trying to figure out how other LoCo Teams integrate Launchpad. Launchpad is one of the best community tool I’ve ever used, and it’ll be to our advantage to fully utilize it.
And in between all of these, I’ve been reading Meeting Logs and LoCo docs on how to run a community and chair online meetings (/me eyes MootBot).
Alrighty then… I need to get back to work.
