Cybersex in the Philippines

I just watched GMA’s episode on Cybersex in the Philippines on The Reporters Notebook. Sen. Jambi Madrigal said it’s an embarrassment to the Filipino people… give me a break! Why don’t they capitalize on that instead of criminalizing it. Since they’re very tolerant on gambling, why not cybersex? They say that Philippines is the number one in Asia on cybersex, if this is true, then we should take advantage of it. Have they ever been on strippers club? Do they know exactly what’s happening in VIP and Exclusive Rooms? If not, then they don’t have the right to complain about the dangers of cybersex. There’s a lot more joints here than schools, and yet, they’ve been very tolerant about it. Heck, I’d rather see women on my monitor than hear my friends’ adventures inside the VIP room. At least this way, they don’t get abused behind the dark curtain and a few minutes of stripping will earn them $5-$20. Private sessions can even go as high as $50. Again, our government should take advantage of this, it’s what they’re good at anyway.

This kind of business is profitable… think about it. If we are indeed number 1 in Asia, then the tax alone might even wipe out our National Debt in a few years time. You know what else? The demand for high-speed internet connection would increase dramatically. Far-flung barrios would finally have access to the internet. ISPs would profit from this… Schools in the provinces would have immediate access to high-speed connections… Demand from computer manufacturers would skyrocket… And the unemployed majority would finally get a job maintaining networks of computers and servers. And once we’re all set, we tax them.

Lastly, since we’re dealing with porn here, we should guard our minors – both from stripping and from viewing. We should create or adopt an Age-Verification system. Since only a handful have credit cards, I think OpenID – with emphasis on age-verification – might be the solution.

So here’s my idea, what do you think?

  1. Hello there. I apologize the snooping but I just stumbled upon this writing of yours. I just wanted to complement you for your views and stand. I’ve have met Sen. Madrigal and, based on that experience, she would actually listen to you if she would hear you out. She’s not like other politicians who really just work by the book but she knows what will be good for the majority.

Thanks for the insight. And, not like you know me anyway, instead of just writing about your complains, maybe you should consider putting yourself on the front line of things.

  2. I will report a cybersex scam through yahoo chatline, filipino young women receiving money through western union for their shows during cybersex chat. Please report to the authorities and investigate these people.

These are the following girls begging money in exchange for cybersex.
    Leonaly J Custodio from Taguig,

    Arlene S. Rodriguez
    MRB Bldg. 4 unit 104
    Diego silang Village
    Ususan, Taguig City
    Metro Manila

  3. It’s pretty obvious that you haven’t taken the time to read this post. I am not against cybersex. In fact, I promote this. Scam? Do you even have any idea what a scam is? It’s not a scam, these people work for it. Hell, it’s a lot more decent than prostitution… and it pays well.

Now, why am I in favor of Cybersex? For one, these women don’t get abused physically and there’s no chances of being raped. That’s a biggie for me. Not to mention that this is a profitable business… if only our government could see its true potential.

There seem to a hint that you’re trying to get back at Leonaly and Arlene for something… Let me warn you that my blog is not the proper forum for that. Maybe you’re just jealous they’re earning easy money. Well, get over your inhibitions and maybe you too can quit your day job and earn a hell of a lot more money by doing this. And don’t you dare tell me that’s immoral. Morality is subjective, and if you think that’s immoral, then you’re better off living in North Korea.

Begging? Shesh! I won’t even go there.

Report her? Oh I’ll report her alright… I’ll tell my friends and then chip in some money so we can see both of them nude. Maybe even see some girl-to-girl action.

And lastly, you hiding behind anonymity doesn’t make you and your comment credible. So fuck off!

  4. I agree with Dax the cam girls earn their money and are not a scam except when they come at you from a adult dating site. You see their profile then you try to chat them up and they give you the url. Maybe it is just good marketing and salesmanship but it seems disengenious to me. But anytime you see model on their profile then you know. I am in Amsterdam so I can get a lot more than a look for $6/min. I also wonder if the girls are safe in the current underground method of this industry. Their has to be a pimp somewhere collecting the cash so a government licensing and permit process would help similar to prostitution here in Holland. Anyway, great article I enjoyed it.

  5. The girls in philippines do that kind of work cause they don’t have other choice to find a work to support family and/or children. their government is corrupt and don’t give them chances for other job. That’s why many pinay do cybersex and that’s why philippines is number one in cybersex.
Reporting the girls will not help them, instead they will go in jail. That means most of times nobody will earn money for her family. Reporting them means to ruin a family.
And of course they ask to do show through yahoo and receive money with Western Union cause they don’t earn much from cybersex site. They “work” in studios and have boss who take most of their salary.

  6. that thing is fairly legal, i mean cybersex.. but as you see, more and more “filipino adults” are exploiting those who are too young to do such. that’s illegal! promoting it across the country, even the world will do no good to the philippines. just a friendly opinion. :)

  7. tsk tsk stupid ignorant fools so you mean its ok if your mother is having a virtual sex with a stranger who pays her money by masturbating in the front of the webcam?better wish that someday your daughter(s) or wife wont be in the same shithole those women and minor girls are in now.I hope my sons will be the one viewing your daughter(s) or wife naked bodies in the future

What will the other foreigners think of the other filipinas that arent engaged in such stupidity.

One Question what if your mother, wife, sister, daughter(s)or you shithole female relatives or love ones was recruited to be in a cybersex what will you do?will you raise your head up high that she is showing her awesome body in front of others, and what if your friend watches your sister doing a striptease or masturbating infront of him and you friend start ejaculating. The next day he told you that he saw your sister did a striptease for him for a let see uhm say 50bucks.I wonder what will you do will you talk like a pimp or youll just walk away with shame.Im sure i dont want my daughters to be in a hellhole job like cybersex. That so embarassing to live in a country and named it as a No.1 on cybersex.
You people should think about it the country you live in is named the No.1 cybersex on asia and you still forcing it to be legal.I DONT WANT MY DAUGHTERS TO LIVE IN A COUTNRY THAT IS NAMED THE No.1 CYBERSEX COUNTRY IN ASIA. Best word to describe you guys PERVERTS!!!
its not bad to be scrupulous sometimes

  8. @Roy[NWO]
As long as they’re of legal age, I don’t particularly care if my mother, or daughter, or cousin, or auntie, or even my 92 year old grandmother goes into this kind of business. They have a mind of their own and they know what they’re engaging themselves into and their consequences.

If you’re living with a silver spoon in your mouth, then you wouldn’t understand our predicament here. And if you have no idea what our people’s going through, then I suggest you shut the fuck up and go flame other blogs.

I’ll tell you a story, this way, you don’t have to pretend you understand what most women in our country have been going through.

I met a 25-yr-old mother of two children working at a fastfood here in Baguio. My friend, a social worker, told me her story.

She fled from a war-ravaged town down south(Mindanao) after giving birth to her first child for fear that her townsfolk would cut off her ear (or is it her nose) ‘coz she’s impure. She’s impure because, according to her, she allowed her father to forcibly rape her.

She stayed at her relatives in Manila shortly after arriving. For a year, she’s been doing odd jobs such as shining shoes to selling pirated music CDs. And then, again, her uncle raped her after coming home drunk. She packed her stuff and wandered the street with her child for a few months as a beggar. Then she met a gay pimp. She was forced to sell her body so she can feed her child. Her hunger and her love for her child made her do what most of us can only describe as a nightmare. A blowjob, she narrated, would costs from P50-P100 (PhP45 = $1 at that time, just to give you an idea the hell she’s been through) while sex would cost P250-P500. She again fled after her live-in prostitute boyfriend went home with another woman – his new girlfriend. That dick beat her up and forced her to move out of their small apartment. She was 5mos pregnant that time and almost had a miscarriage.

That’s when I met her. Saw her cigarette burns on her arms and legs. Saw her purplish bruises on her back, torso, and left shin. Out of compassion, I gave her my old P3 computer complete with webcam and printer, and even a scanner. Gave her some pdf ebooks I have on C++, Java, PHP, etc. and encouraged her to study programming. Taught her how to use a computer, and showed her GetAFreelancer.com and the opportunities waiting for her after she learns a programming language.

Two years after, I met her again. She’s no programmer and confessed that it’s too hard for her and would rather do what she’s used to doing – that is, profit from her body. She went into the cybersex business – she found that out after searching for rape victims and their stories. She installed Yahoo! Messenger and she’s on a couple of chatrooms every evening offering to masturbate to voyeurs for a price. And she’s earning around $10-$80 a night.

But you know what, I’m still proud of her. She’s in college now, studying in the morning, selling Avon products on her free time, and selling her wares in the evening. And guess what, for two whole years, she didn’t receive a beating nor was she raped. No more cigarette burns, contusions, and bruises. She and her kids are healthier and happier now.

She’s the reason I approve Cybersex.

Roy[NWO], you describe us as perverts and unscrupulous. Maybe we are, but only because you live in a golden palace with lots and lots of servants doing your bidding, eating meat, drinking red wine, and smoking cuban cigars.

You’re shielded from the reality we live in that’s why you’re full of shit! You’ve been assuming too much.

Don’t judge us by how we live our life. We call it survival.
